This is a tribute website to Robert Flaherty, a man that many call the Father of documentary film.

His unique visual style, created out of a deepseated belief in the motion picture camera's ability to allow us to see beyond our first look--beyond our preconceived ideas about what is essential about the subject matter--sets his filmmaking apart.

Certainly, he figures as a primary founder of anthropological documentary filmmaking.

He and his wife, Frances Hubbard Flaherty, forged a vision of filmmaking that changed the world of cinema.

They also changed our view of the human family
